52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy - Blogs

Last week GeneaBloggers announced the new series 52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy by Amy Coffin of The We Tree Genealogy Blog.

Amy gives three objectives to blog about during the coming year.

1. Make others aware of resources utilized for research.
2. Let others know how you use these resources.
3. Give thanks and recognition to those who provide these resources.

This week's challenge it to write about the blog you are most thankful.

Each day I read almost 100 great genealogy blogs. Trying to narrow down to one selection was very difficult. After much thought I have selected two blogs. One started me down this wonderful blogging path. The other is by someone who I have become comfortable enough to call friend.

The first one is GeneaBloggers. Way back when I started this blogging adventure I had the great fortune of stumbling on Thomas MacEntee's website.

As a newbie to the blogging world everything seemed overwhelming and a wee bit scary. In fact my only knowledge came from a short workshop presented by our public library system.

It felt just like coming home with this group of genealogy bloggers! I was welcomed with guidance, information and overall camaraderie.

One of the most helpful features of the site were the daily writing prompts. These helped conquer the initial fear of thinking of interesting subjects each day.

I can't say enough about the amazing support system. From the first blog post I have been part of the family. The wonderful comments and helpful advice have gone a long way to bolster my confidence.

It became habit to read this website every morning with my coffee. Each day I would find news from the genealogy world and upcoming events. These went a long way to advance my knowledge and understanding of this new road I have begun to travel.

The second blog that I am most thankful for would be Marian's Roots and Rambles by Marian Pierre-Louis.

I have followed Marian for about a year. Each day Marian writes timely and thought-provoking posts.

What I admire most about Marian is her attention to details on an array of topics. From uploading GPS coordinates to building genealogy momentum, her posts are informed and educational.

One of my favorite posts from this year was The Top 3 Challenges in Genealogy. As usual Marian writes in detail what factors have come into play affecting the genealogy community.

Finally, I admire Marian's accessibility. She is happy to answer questions and give advice on any given subject.

Thanks to Thomas and Marian for providing support and knowledge each day. Thanks to Amy for this wonderful series.

This will be a very exciting and informative year!
