Post card to Rachel Starr (husband's mother) from her Daddy
This postcard was discovered in a chest full of treasures my husband inherited from his mother. Inside were about a dozen postcards carefully preserved for future generations.
After reviewing these gems I decided to search online for historic postcards. How wonderful to find collections of every type and location. Looking at the various cards you can travel back in time to places your ancestor visited or resided.
Here are a few sites I discovered simply by doing a Google search of "historic postcards" or "historical postcards" and location of interest:

We all enjoy receiving postcards from friends and family as they venture to interesting destinations. Years ago my husband and I took our children on a four week adventure across country. Out of the blue I thought of sending postcards to our home detailing each stop along the way. On the back of each card we wrote what we were doing and an interesting tidbit about the area.
Years later reading the cards our memories flood back. Reminding us of shared experiences and giving us much laughter. Little did I realize we were creating family history!

I love your post about postcards. That capitol building looks rather shiny and new, doesn't it? I live down the street from a flea market, and there are several dealers with trays and trays of antique postcards. I always spend a few minutes poking through their wares. I've found a few keepers, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather! I really enjoyed this post. How fun to spend time with these wonderful pieces of the past. I can almost visualize where my ancestors spent time.
