Tuesday's Tip - Family Search Learning Resources

Family Search has been one of my favorite online research tools. This past weekend I finally made time to use the learning module from the database. The site states these courses are designed to help "learn the basic methods and key resources to start your family history".

Being relatively new to genealogy I was excited to discover Introduction to Polish Research presented by Ceil Wendt Jensen. Several points covered in the presentation were maps, gazetteers, Polish alphabet, variations of surnames, unique endings to the Polish language, and search techniques.

Here are a few websites recommended:

Atlas des Deutschen Reichs (an atlas of the German Empire) by Ludwig Ravenstein

JewishGen ShtetlSeeker (town search)

Kartenmeister (gazetteer)

mapa.Szukacz.pl (interactive map of Poland)

How wonderful to have access to courses presented by professional genealogists!
