Tombstone Tuesday - Misspelling Set in Stone

Here we have another grave from Green Mount Cemetery in Baltimore City, Maryland. Forever etched in stone on Benjamin S. Buckley's grave will be the misspelling of "beleiveth".

Thank goodness for today's spell check!

  1. Deb - there are a few tombstones in my family with the deceased's NAME misspelled!

  2. I have a couple with misspelled names as well. And don't even get me started on dates. My mom's side is especially bad with dates. My great great grandfather's birthdate is off by 17 years (either that or he married at age 5 and became a father at 7) and his death date is off by a year. His wife's headstone has a date of birth that is 8 years off the opposite direction.

  3. Pretty amazing the misspellings and incorrect dates! Does make things a bit difficult for future generations when researching.
