Funeral Card Friday - Mr. Thomas Moody, 1716

Recently I have been researching funeral customs for our immigrant ancestors. I found the above photograph from The Livery Companies of the City of London : their origin, character, development, and social and political importance, published 1892. What a macabre scene! Nothing like the comforting images we see on cards at services today.
