Tuesday's Tip - Federation of East European Family History Societies

While researching my Bohemian heritage I recently discovered a wonderful resource called "The Federation of East European Family History Societies". The site was one of Family Tree Magazine's 101 Best Website of 2010.

"The Federation of East European Family History Societies (FEEFHS) was organized in 1992 as an umbrella organization that promotes family research in eastern and central Europe without any ethic, religious, or social distinctions. It provides a forum for individuals and organizations focused on a single country or group of people to exchange information and be updated on developments in the field. While it primarily serves the interests of North Americans in tracing their lineages back to a European homeland, it welcomes members from all countries."

On the site you will find a wide variety of resource tools such as maps, articles, websites, and calendar of upcoming events. Listed to purchase are back issues of the FEEFHS Journal, which is no longer in print. Several of the earlier issues on the site have full articles available for research such as :

A Beginner's Guide to Austrian Records

An Introduction to Austrian Military Records

The Early German Settlement of North Eastern Moravia

U.S. Immigration Records

Finally, there are several booklets with traditional Czech foods such as kolachy, Czech Bean soup, and Bohemian Apple Strudel. I can't wait to experiment with the foods of my ancestors homeland!
