Church Record Sunday - Rev. C. W. Ruth - Church of the Nazarene

Several years ago when starting this genealogy adventure, the first person to capture my attention was the Rev. C. W. Ruth. Christian Wismer Ruth was my husband's grandfather, born 1865 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

My husband knew that Christian had been a pastor, but not the denomination or extent of his ministry. Being very intrigued by this gentleman, I decided to spend quality time researching his life. When searching online one evening I found information that chronicled his life from early years to his death in 1941.
One of the most helpful links was the Church of the Nazarene. Here I found that Christian was an influential and well loved pastor in the early movement of the church. In contacting the church archivist we received an amazing package of information. Inside were pictures of Christian through the years, various copies of his sermons, copies of letters he wrote (both in his handwriting and transcribed), accounts of his passing, and finally a complete memorial edition of the Nazarene newsletter.
What I learned from this early lesson was to follow every lead, and never underestimate where you will find solid information.
